A dental camera for obtaining a picture of an object in the mouth of a patient is provided and includes a light source for irradiating the object, a reflected light receipt element for receiving the light reflected from the object which may be, in particular, one or several teeth, and a mouthpiece. The mouthpiece has an opening therethrough which permits the passage therethrough of light to the reflected light receipt element, whereby the reflected light passes through the mouthpiece and is received by the reflected light receipt element. The light of the light source preferably passes through the mouthpiece.
