A dental floss device comprises a handle having a shank terminating in a head piece. A disposable dental floss holder comprises a base portion and a pair of spaced-apart jaws with a length of dental floss extending therebetween. The head piece has a groove in which the base portion is securely retained when the device is used in all flossing directions. Snap-fit projections extend inwardly from the jaws of the floss holder and are retained behind marginal edges of a floor of the groove. When used, the floss holder is removed and a new floss holder is fitted.
