A method for evaluating rheological properties of certain non-Newtonian liquids employs the principle of a multiple forced flow of a single sample of the liquid through an orifice, thus effecting a significant elongation of the sample. The liquid is forced through the orifice by means of a piston. Preferably, the orifice is built into the piston so that the liquid remains stationary during the piston advance. The timing and rate of the sequential strokes of the piston are controlled and the differential pressure across the orifice is measured. A function between the timing of the piston strokes, the stroke rate and the differential pressure can be determined. The function has been found to represent a relatively reliable rheological "signature" of the tested liquid.
La présente invention a pour objet une méthode permettant d'évaluer les propriétés rhéologiques de certains liquides non-newtoniens faisant appel au principe de l'écoulement forcé multiple d'un échantillon unique de liquide à travers un orifice pour produire ainsi un allongement significatif de l'échantillon. Un piston est utilisé pour forcer l'écoulement du liquide à travers l'orifice. De préférence, l'orifice fait partie intégrante du piston, de sorte que le liquide demeure stationnaire durant l'avance du piston. La synchronisation et la cadence des courses séquentielles du piston sont contrôlées et le différentiel de pression à travers l'orifice est mesuré. Une fonction entre la synchronisation des courses du piston, la cadence et la pression différentielle peut être déterminée. Les observations démontrent que cette fonction serait une "signature" rhéologique relativement fiable du liquide ainsi analysé.
