The invention concerns a device for connecting two tools sections (10,14) along a common axis. A lug (12) extending out axially from the first tool section (10) fits into a bore (20), designed to accommodate the lug (12), in a connector sleeve (16) extending out beyond the second tool section (14). A locking mechanism (18) with a bolt (28) which can be moved along a transverse bore (26) in the lug (12) provides sufficient bracing force at the flat interface (22,24) between the two tool sections (10,14). In addition to the bracing force acting in the direction of the bolt (28), appropriate measures provide a gripping force acting on the lug (12) in the bore (20) at right angles to the bolt, automatically centering the tools sections along their common axis and strengthening the connection perpendicular to the bolt axis.
