ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A device for vacuum attachment of an object to a surface, such as a skin area, especially a vacuum electrode device for ECG and similar measurements, comprises an object holder with a mount for the object, a vacuum port, a preferably annular sealing member which is engageable with the surface to define therewith a vacuum chamber, a vacuum passage extending between the vacuum chamber and the vacuum port, and a preferably air-permeable contaminant absorber which is removably disposed in the vacuum chamber at the junction between the vacuum passage and the vacuum chamber. The object may be a throw-away electrode unit which includes an electrode and the contaminant absorber.
