A device to enable a person to move on the snow. A plate has an upper and a lower surface. A binding is attached to the upper surface and can receive and secure the foot of a wearer. A unidirectional slip material is attached to the lower surface. This material allows the person wearing the device to slide the plate in one direction but resists the tendency to slide in the opposite direction. The device is an improvement over snow shoes in that it can be slid over the snow, if desired, in one direction and will also allow the wearer to climb quite steep slopes because of its resistance to sliding in the opposite direction.
