It is intended to provide a method of diagnosing apoplectic stroke/asymptomatic brain infarction and screening patients with apoplectic stroke/asymptomatic brain infarction by measuring the acrolein content, the polyamine content, the polyamine oxidase activity or the content of polyamine oxidase protein in the plasma. This finding suggests that inhibition of polyamine oxidase would contribute to the prevention of apoplectic stroke/asymptomatic brain infarction or the halt of the progression of pathological conditions thereof and that a remedy for apoplectic stroke/asymptomatic brain infarction would be obtained by searching for a compound inhibiting polyamine oxidase.
