This invention relates to a DNA sequence comprising a nucleotide sequence encoding a variant .alpha.2B-adrenoceptor protein and to said variant .alpha.2B-adrenoceptor protein as well as a method for screening a subject to determine if said subject is a carrier of a variant gene that encodes said variant .alpha.2B-adrenoceptor. Further this invention relates to a method for treating a mammal suffering from vascular contraction of coronary arteries, said method comprising the step of administering a selective .alpha.2B- adrenoceptor antagonist to said mammal and to transgenic animals comprising a human DNA molecule encoding human .alpha.2B-adrenoceptor or said variant .alpha.2B-adrenoceptor.

Elle concerne ladite protéine du récepteur adrénergique .alpha.¿2B? variant, et un procédé qui permet de cribler un sujet afin de déterminer si celui-ci est porteur d'un gène variant codant ledit récepteur adrénergique .alpha.¿2B? variant. L'invention concerne en outre un procédé de traitement d'un mammifère souffrant de contraction vasculaire des artères coronaires. Le procédé consiste à administrer audit mammifère et à des animaux transgéniques un antagoniste sélectif du récepteur adrénergique .alpha.¿2B? comprenant une molécule d'ADN humain codant un récepteur adrénergique .alpha.¿2B? humain ou ledit récepteur adrénergique .alpha.¿2B? variant.
