The continuous welding electrode has an outer welding flux coating provided on its outer surface, and transverse slots are provided at even intervals over the entire length of the welding flux coating to expose the center metal core such that it can be used for continuous welding operation. The welding electrode is provided with a metal foil outer wrapping which enhances the flexibility of the electrode without causing the coating from separating from the metal or breaking; it also prevents the contamination of the portions of the metal core exposed in the transverse slots so as to ascertain the conductivity of the welding current to the metal core at these slots.
