A flexible microphone boom (12) includes an inner conductor (15a-15g) provided from a plurality of wire strands (15a-15g). Disposed about the inner conductor is an inner insulator (13) having a first predetermined thickness. Disposed about the inner insulator is a conductive layer (46) and disposed about the conductive layer is an outer jacket (12a) having a second predetermined thickness.
