A foot or top plate assembly for a shoring structure or tower comprises a wedged pin (52), a screw jack (28) having an end adapted to receive the wedged pin in a fiction fit, a foot plate (38) having a first support (40, 42) for receiving the wedged pin (52) in a friction fit and a second support (51) for supporting the wedged pin. The first and second supports adapted to receive the hollow end in a sliding fit. The wedged pin (52) connects the foot plate (38) to the screw jack (28), whereby as the wedged pin is moved between an engaged position and a disengaged position the base plate moves relative to the screw jack.
