A formaldehyde-free curable aqueous composition comprising: (a) a polyacid comprising at least two carboxylic acid groups, anhydride groups, or salts of the polyacid thereof; (b) an active hydrogen compound containing at least two active hydrogen groups selected from the group consisting of hydroxyl, primary amino, secondary amino, and mixtures thereof; and (c) a fluoroborate accelerator; wherein the ratio of the number of equivalents of said carboxylic acid groups, anhydride groups, or salts thereof to the number of equivalents of said hydroxyl groups is from 1/0.01 to about 1/3, and wherein said carboxylic acid groups, anhydride groups, or salts thereof are neutralized to an extent of less than 35% with a fixed base is disclosed. A method for curing formaldehyde-free polyacids and a method for bonding glass fiber heat-resistant nonwovens with a formaldehyde-free binder are further disclosed.

On dévoile une composition aqueuse durcissable sans formaldéhyde comprenant : (a) un polyacide comprenant au moins deux groupes acide carboxylique, des groupes anhydride, ou des sels de ce polyacide; (b) un composé à hydrogène actif contenant au moins deux groupes à hydrogène actif choisi parmi le groupe constitué de radicaux hydroxyle, amino primaire, amino secondaire et des mélanges de ces derniers; et (c) un accélérateur de fluoroborate; où le rapport du nombre d'équivalents desdits groupes acide carboxylique, groupes anhydride ou sels au nombre d'équivalents desdits groupes hydroxyle varie de 1/0,01 à environ 1/3, et où lesdits groupes acide carboxylique, groupes anhydride, ou sels sont neutralisés dans une mesure de moins de 35 % avec une base immobilisée. Une méthode pour durcir les polyacides sans formaldéhyde et une méthode pour lier des non-tissés de fibre de verre thermorésistants avec un liant sans formaldéhyde sont également dévoilées.
