A system for preventing fraudulent calling activity in a telecommunications network when an Automatic Number Identification failure (ANIF) occurs at a switch attempting to process a call within the network. When an ANIFoccurs, an operator obtains information equivalent to an Automatic Number Identification (ANI) from the calling party and the system determines whether the call is of a type that would not have been restricted had the ANIF not occurred. If the call would not otherwise have been restricted had the ANIF not occurred, the system automatically assigns a blanket billing restriction to the call which only allows specific call types (such as what are deemed the safer alternate billing methods of collect or credit card) and blocks other restricted call types.

L'invention est un système servant à empêcher les opérations d'appel frauduleuses dans les réseaux de télécommunication en cas de défaillance dans l'identification automatique du numéro dans un commutateur tentant de traiter un appel dans le réseau. Quand une telle défaillance survient, un opérateur obtient du demandeur une information équivalant à l'identification automatique du numéro et le système détermine si l'appel appartient à un type pour lequel il n'y aurait eu aucune restriction si la défaillance n'était pas survenue. Si l'appel est de ce type, le système impose automatiquement une restriction de génération globale qui ne touche que certains types d'appel spécifiques (virement des frais, facturation à un compte de carte de crédit, etc.) et bloque les types d'appel interdits.
