The present invention is based on the identification of a G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) that is expressed predominantly in the brain and placenta and nucleic acid molecules that encoded the GPCR, which is referred to herein as the hCAR protein and hCAR gene respectively (for human Constitutively Active Receptor). Based on this identification, the present invention provides: (1) isolated hCAR protein; (2) isolated nucleic acid molecules that encode an hCAR protein; (3) antibodies that selectively bind to the hCAR protein; (4) methods of isolating allelic variants of the hCAR protein and gene; (5) methods of identifying cells and tissues that express the hCAR protein/gene; (6) methods of identifying agents and cellular compounds that bind to the hCAR protein; (7) methods of identifying agents that modulate the expression of the hCAR gene; and (8) methods of modulating the activity of the hCAR protein in a cell or organism.

La présente invention est fondée sur l'identification d'un récepteur couplé à une protéine G (GPCR) qui est exprimé de façon prédominante dans le cerveau et le placenta et des molécules d'acides nucléiques codantes pour ce GPCR, appelé ici protéine hCAR et gène hCAR respectivement ( pour récepteur humain constitutivement actif). Fondée sur cette identification, cette invention concerne: (1)une protéine hCAR isolée, (2) des molécules d'acides nucléiques isolées codantes pour une protéine hCAR, (3) des anticorps qui se fixent sélectivement sur la protéine hCAR, (4) des techniques d'isolation de variants alléliques de la protéine et du gène hCAR, (5) des techniques d'identification de cellules et de tissus qui expriment la protéine/le gène hCAR, (6) des techniques d'identification d'agents et de composés cellulaires qui se fixent sur la protéine hCAR, (7) des techniques d'identification d'agents qui modulent l'expression du gène hCAR et, (8) des techniques de modulation de l'activité de la protéine hCAR dans une cellule ou dans un organisme.
