A method of producing a solid glycerol derived material includes the steps of combining glycerol with a metal oxide, the glycerol having a water content of between about 5 and 50%, and the rate of combination of the glycerol and the metal oxide and the amount of the metal oxide being selected so that at least part of the water present in the glycerol reacts with the metal oxide in an exothermic reaction and at least part is driven off by heat produced in the exothermic reaction to produce the solid glycerol derived material.

Cette invention concerne un procédé de production dun matériau solide dérivé du glycérol comprenant les étapes consistant à associer le glycérol avec un oxyde métallique, le glycérol ayant une teneur en eau comprise entre environ 5 et 50 %, la vitesse dassociation du glycérol et de loxyde métallique et la quantité doxyde métallique étant choisis de manière à ce quau moins une partie de leau présente dans le glycérol réagisse avec loxyde métallique lors dune réaction exothermique et quau moins une partie soit éliminée par la chaleur produite dans la réaction exothermique pour produire le matériau solide dérivé du glycérol.
