A grid element (17) is provided having a plurality of openings, each opening having a flap valve member (113) associated therewith. Each valve member has a first position of use, wherein the opening is in an open condition, and a second position of use wherein the opening is in a closed condition. The grid element is used in conjunction with a lifting apparatus for lifting one or more objects by means of suction. The apparatus comprises a means for creating a vacuum at a vacuum head; means for actuating and deactuating the vacuum. The grid element is operatively associated with the vacuum head so that the vacuum is capable of operating through the openings when said openings are in the open condition of use.

Chaque élément formant clapet a une première position active dans laquelle l'ouverture est à l'état ouvert, et une seconde position active dans laquelle l'ouverture est à l'état obturé. Ledit élément formant grille est associé activement à la tête d'aspiration afin que l'aspiration puisse se faire à travers les ouvertures lorsque ces dernières sont en position active à l'état ouvert.
