A cylindrically shaped golf ball marking device including a hollow upper cap portion and a hollow stepped lower body portion for marking the curved outer surface of a golf ball with identifying indicia. The lower body portion includes a spring actuated stamping portion at the top end having a concave stamping face with a concave raised design or identification indicia region located thereon for marking the curved spherical surface of a golf ball. The stamping face and the raised indicia region are concave, having a curvature that substantially conforms to the curvature of the outer surface of a golf ball or other spherical object to be marked. The cap is placed over the top of the lower portion sealingly enclosing the stamping face underneath cap. The device includes an ink reservoir which is in controllable fluid communication with a porous spring actuated ink absorbing material and the stamping face. The spring actuated ink absorbing material is preferably a sponge encased within a plastic retention sleeve, and located within the inner region of the lower body portion.
