The subject invention relates to a novel hepatitis B surface antigen mutant and methods of detecting this mutant, and/or antibodies thereto, in patient samples. In particular, the mutant contains a substitution of amino acid threonine for the amino acid alanine at position 123 in the amino acid sequence of the hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) protein.

L'invention concerne un nouveau mutant de antigène de surface de l'hépatite B et des procédés de détection de ce mutant, et/ou des anticorps de ce dernier, dans des échantillons de patients. En particulier, ce mutant contient une substitution de thréonine d'acide aminé pour l'alanine d'acide aminé en position 123 dans la séquence d'acides aminés de la protéine de l'antigène de surface de l'hépatite B (HBsAg).
