A device for making holes in the ground includes a tubular cutter (1) having an open first end (2) for insertion into the ground, and an opposite, second end from which a guide means (4) extends. A percussion weight (5) is guided for movement along the guide means and is intended to exert a hammering force on the second end of the cutter. Connected to the end of the percussion weight (5) that lies distal from the tubular cutter (1) is a tubular part (8) which is mounted for axial movement along the guide means (4) and which carries a handle (7) for maneuvering of the percussion weight. The cutter (1) and associated guide means (4) on the one hand and the percussion weight (5) with associated tubular part (8) carrying the handle (7) on the other hand can be locked together releasably against axial movement and are non-rotatable, or are also releasably locked against rotational movement.
