A powerplant for use in high head applications (dams) which allows marine animals (fish, otters, turtles, etc.) to swim safely from one side of the dam to the other. The turbine blades which take energy from the water to produce electricity have a large hole through their center. They are arranged one behind the other in such a way that the velocity of the water is decreased as it passes through each blade. The large holes through the center of the turbine blades and the decreasing of the water flow, while increasing the amount of energy produced, will allow marine life to easily swim back and forth through the dam.
L'invention concerne une turbine hydroélectrique utilisée dans des applications de haute chute (barrages) permettant aux animaux marins (poissons, loutres, tortues, etc.) de nager en sécurité d'un côté à l'autre du barrage. Les pales de turbine qui utilisent l'énergie provenant de l'eau pour produire de l'électricté présentent un grand trou au niveau de leur centre. Elles sont agencées l'une derrière l'autre de sorte que la vitesse de l'eau diminue lorsqu'elle traverse chaque pale. Les grands trous ménagés au niveau du centre des lames de turbine et la diminution de l'écoulement d'eau permettent les allers et retours des animaux marins à travers le barrage tout en augmentant la quantité d'énergie produite.
