In a method for joining at least two plate-shaped workpieces by a fastening tool and a device for operating the fastening tool, the fastening tool comprises a punch for exerting a punch force to perform a joining operation and a clamp for exerting a clamping force upon the workpieces at the joining area. During the joining operation the punch exerts a high punch force to perform the joining operation and the clamp exerts substantially no clamping force to allow for free material deformation in the joining area. After the joining operation both the punch and the clamp exert high forces at the same time to reduce any material deformations of the workpieces and to provide for compression of the workpieces in the joining area. Preferably the invention is used in a riveting tool for setting self piercing rivets; as an alternative it may be used in a clinching tool.
Il s'agit d'une méthode pour assembler au moins deux pièces en forme de plaque au moyen d'un outil de fixation et d'un dispositif d'utilisation de l'outil de fixation, lequel comprend un poinçon pour exercer une force de poinçonage en vue d'effectuer une opération d'assemblage et une bride de serrage pour exercer une force de serrage sur les pièces à travailler dans la zone d'assemblage. Durant l'opération d'assemblage, le poinçon exerce une haute force de poinçonage pour effectuer une opération d'assemblage, alors que la bride de serrage n'exerce presque aucune force de serrage pour permettre une déformation libre du matériau dans la zone d'assemblage. Après l'opération d'assemblage, le poinçon et la bride de serrage exercent des forces élevées en même temps afin de réduire toute déformation du matériau des pièces à travailler et pour permettre la compression des pièces à travailler dans la zone d'assemblage. De préférence, l'invention est utilisée dans un outil à river pour fixer des rivets à perçage automatique; comme autre option, l'invention peut être utilisée dans un outil de clinchage.
