A coding scheme of order n for digital communications, in particular optical communication, for obtaining a coded signalx(t) which represents binary data which are constituted by sequences of information bits {u} with rate T, the scheme having N=2n states, named .SIGMA.i, i=1,2,...,N, and comprising predetermined elementary signals si(t) which are combined in the signal x(t). According to the scheme, if at the time t=kT the coding is in a state .SIGMA.m of the N states, the arrival of the information bit uk of the sequence {u} forces a transition to the state .SIGMA.q of the N states and the selection of the elementary signal si(t) as x(t), whereq and i are given by the following equations: d1=m-1 mod 2; d0=d1+uk mod 2; r=2(m-1)+d0; q=(r modN)+1; and (formula).
L'invention concerne un système de codage d'ordre <i>n</i> pour communications numériques, notamment communication optique, permettant d'obtenir un signal codé <i>x(t)</i> qui représente des données binaires constituées de séquences de bits d'informations {<i>u</i>} à débit T. Ce système comporte <i>N</i>=2<i>?n¿</i> états, appelés .SIGMA.<i>¿i?</i>, <i>i</i>=1,2,...,<i>N</i>, et comporte des signaux élémentaires prédéterminés <i>s¿i?(t)</i> qui sont combinés dans le signal <i>x(t)</i>. Selon le système, si le codage au temps t=kT se situe dans un état .SIGMA.<i>¿m?</i> des N états, l'arrivée du bit d'informations <i>u¿k?</i> de la séquence {<i>u</i>} force une transition à l'état .SIGMA.<i>¿q?</i> desdits N états, et la sélection du signal élémentaire <i>s¿i?(t)</i> comme <i>x(t)</i>, <i>q</i> et <i>i</i> étant obtenus par les équations suivantes : <i>d¿1?</i>=<i>m</i>-1 mod 2 ; <i>d¿0?</i>=<i>d¿1?</i>+<i>u¿k?</i> mod 2 ; <i>r</i>=2(<i>m</i>-1)+d<i>¿0?</i>; <i>q</i>=(<i>r</i> mod <i>N</i>)+1 ; et (formule I). L'invention concerne aussi un procédé de transmission pour communications numériques codées, caractérisé en ce que les données numériques sont codées par ledit système de codage, et le signal codé est transmis dans un moyen de transmission, notamment des fibres optiques dispersives ; ainsi qu'un dispositif utilisant ce système de codage.
