The present invention relates to a lubricant for use in refrigerators employing hydrofluorocarbon coolants such as R 134a. R 32, R 125 and the like. and refrigerant compositions that use such a lubricant. The lubricant according to the present invention comprises compounding to synthetic oil a carbodiimide compound represented by the following general formula as the molecule: R1-N=C=N-R2 (1) wherein R1 and R2 represent hydrogen atoms or hydrocarbly groups or nitrogen and/or oxygen containing hydrocarbly groups, and R1 and R2 may be the same or different groups. The refrigerant composition according to the present invention contains said hydrofluorocarbon coolants and said lubricant at a given blending ratio.
