A machine for the manufacture or treatment of a material web, in par- ocular of a paper or cardboard web, comprises a rope guide for the threading of a marginal web strip. The rope guide has two endless ropes which can be brought together to form a rope nip and whose run course can be correspondingly changed for the positioning of the rope nip in a threading position within a plane extending in the machine running di- rection and perpendicular to the material web.
