A magnetically controlled pump is implanted into the brain of a patient and delivers a plurality of medicat-ing agents at a controlled rate corresponding to the specific needs of the patient. The current invention comprises a flexi-ble double walled pouch that is formed from two layers of polymer. The pouch is alternately expanded and contracting by magnetic solenoid. When contracted, a medicating agent is pushed out of the pouch through a plurality of needles. When the pouch is expanded, surrounding cerebral fluid is drawn into the space between the double walls of the pouch from which it is drawn through a catheter to an analyzer. Cerebral fluid drawn from the patient is analyzed. The oper-ation of the apparatus and hence the treatment is remotely controlled based on these measurements and displayed through an external controller.
L'invention concerne une pompe commandée magnétiquement qui est implantée dans le cerveau d'un patient et qui libère une pluralité d'agents médicamenteux à un débit contrôlé correspondant aux besoins spécifiques du patient. La présente invention est munie d'une poche souple à double paroi qui est formée de deux couches de polymère. La poche est détendue et contractée de manière alternée par un solénoïde magnétique. Lorsqu'elle est contractée, un agent médicamenteux est poussé hors de la poche à travers une pluralité d'aiguilles. Lorsque la poche est détendue, du liquide cérébral environnant est aspiré dans l'espace entre les doubles parois de la poche, d'où il est aspiré par un cathéter vers un analyseur. Le liquide cérébral prélevé sur le patient est analysé. Le fonctionnement de l'appareil et, de ce fait, le traitement, sont commandés à distance sur la base de ces mesures et affichés par le biais d'un système de commande externe.
