A materials handling vehicle (10) is provided comprising a frame comprising an operator's compartment (30), wheels supported on the frame, at least one of the wheels being a steerable wheel (74), and a steer-by-wire system associated with the steerable wheel to effect angular movement of the steerable wheel. The vehicle further comprises a control apparatus. Steer-by-wire system comprises a control handle(90), a tactile feedback device(100) and a steer motor(120). Control apparatus is configured to increase tactile feedback device signal in response to an operator entering operator's compartment in order to inhibit an operator from making a quick turn request via a control handle. Depending on whether an operator is located within or outside operator' s compartment the steerable wheel can be moved to the different corresponding angular ranges.
Linvention concerne un dispositif de manutention de matériaux (10) qui comprend un châssis qui comprend un habitacle dopérateur (30), des roues supportées sur le châssis, au moins lune des roues étant une orientable (74), et un système de direction câblé associé à la roue orientable afin deffectuer le mouvement angulaire de la roue orientable. Lappareil de commande est configuré pour augmenter le signal du dispositif de rétroaction tactile en réponse à lentrée dun opérateur dans lhabitacle afin dempêcher un opérateur deffectuer une demande de virage rapide via une poignée de commande. Selon quun opérateur se trouve à lintérieur ou à lextérieur de lhabitacle, la roue orientable peut être déplacée sur les différents rayons daction angulaires correspondants.
