A remedy and/or preventive for cardiac failure and/or cardiac hypertrophy which contains as the active ingredient a hydroxamic acid compound represented by the formula (I): (I) (wherein R1 represents hydrogen, C1-8 alkyl, or C1-8 alkyl substituted by -OR2, and R2 represents hydrogen, C1-8 alkyl, benzyl, or C1-8 alkyl substituted by C1-8 alkoxy) or a nontoxic salt of the compound. The compound represented by the formula (I) has matrix metaloproteinase inhibitory activity and is effective against cardiac failure and cardiac hypertrophy.
L'invention concerne un agent thérapeutique/de prévention pour insuffisance cardiaque et/ou hypertrophie cardiaque contenant comme ingrédient actif un composé d'acide hydroxamique représenté par la formule (I) ou un sel non toxique dudit composé. Dans cette formule, R1 représente hydrogène, C1-8 alkyle ou C1-8 alkyle substitué par -OR2, et R2 représente hydrogène, C1-8 alkyle, benzyle ou C1-8 alkyle substitué par C1-8 alcoxy. Le composé représenté par la formule (I) possède une activité inhibitrice de la métalloprotéinase matricielle et est efficace contre l'insuffisance et l'hypertrophie cardiaques
