The present invention relates to a medical apparatus (23) for the early detection and the diagnosis of cartilage degeneration and a method for using such apparatus. The apparatus comprises at least two point electrodes (33), a signal processor (17) located in proximity of the electrodes, a defined abutment (29) in recess of the electrodes for allowing compression of the cartilage against the electrodes until the cartilage abuts against the abutment surface and a computer program for analyzing and interpreting the data received from the electrodes. The medical apparatus may be used in research to identify effects of new compounds or drugs on the cartilage or may be used in clinics to monitor the degradation of cartilage of a patient over an extended period of time.
L'invention concerne un appareil médical (23) pour la détection et le diagnostic précoces de la dégénérescence cartilagineuse ainsi qu'un procédé d'utilisation dudit appareil. Ledit appareil comprend au moins deux électrodes à pointe (33), un processeur de signal (17) situé à proximité des électrodes, une butée définie (29), en retrait par rapport aux électrodes et permettant la compression du cartilage contre les électrodes jusqu'à ce que ce dernier vienne buter contre la surface de butée et un programme informatique pour l'analyse et l'interprétation des données reçues des électrodes. Ledit appareil médical peut être utilisé dans la recherche, pour l'identification d'effets de composés ou médicaments nouveaux sur le cartilage ou dans les cliniques pour la surveillance de la dégradation du cartilage d'un patient sur une période prolongée
