In order to estimate the size of an initial population of nucleic acids in a sample of interests, in particular by PCR, the following steps are performed: (a) providing a model of the effectiveness of the PCR, the model comprising a constant stage followed by a non-constant stage, the stages being united b a changeover region having a changeover index; (b) using the model of effectiveness to express a relationship between the changeover index and a parameter representative of the initial population size; and (c) determining the changeover index by comparison with the experimental measurements, and deducing therefrom the initial population size in the sample of interest.
L'invention permet d'estimer la taille d'une population initiale d'acides nucléiques dans un échantillon d'intérêt, en particulier par PCR, selon les étapes suivantes: (a) on établit un modèle de l'efficacité de la PCR, le modèle comprenant un palier constant suivi d'un palier non constant, les paliers étant unis par une région de transition possédant un indice de transition; (b) on utilise le modèle d'efficacité pour exprimer une relation entre l'indice de transition et un paramètre représentatif de la taille de population initiale; et (c) on détermine l'indice de transition par comparaison avec les mesures expérimentales et on en déduit la taille de population initiale dans l'échantillon d'intérêt.
