An algorithm for video summarization is described. The algorithm combines photometric and motion information. According to the algorithm the correspondence between feeature points is used to detect shot boundaries and to select key frames. Thus, the rate of feature points, which are lost or initiated, is used as an indication if a shot transition occurred or not. Key frames are selected as frames where the activity change is low.

La présente invention concerne un algorithme destiné à la synthèse vidéo. Cet algorithme combine des informations photométrique et de mouvement. Selon l'algorithme la correspondance entre des points de caractéristiques est utilisée afin de détecter des limites de séquences de trames et de sélectionner des trames clés. Ainsi, le taux de points de caractéristiques, qui sont perdus ou instaurés, est utilisé comme une indication qu'une transition de séquences de trames s'est produite ou non.
