A method and an apparatus for analysing a material, such as coal and iron ore, particularly with a view to identifying contaminants, is disclosed. The method and apparatus are based on the use of multiple (particularly dual) energy x- ray analysis with x-rays at different photon energies. X-rays are transmitted through a material and the detected x-rays are processed to produce an image of the material that combines together the separate images produced by the different photon energy x-rays. The combined image has enhanced contrast which minimises the affects of non-compositional factors that otherwise would affect identifying constituents of the material.
Procédé et appareil d'analyse d'un matériau tel que du charbon ou du minerai de fer en particulier en vue d'y identifier certains éléments contaminants, basés sur l'analyse par rayons X à plusieurs niveaux d'énergie, (notamment deux), mettant en oeuvre des rayons X d'énergies photoniques différentes. Les rayons X sont dirigés sur le matériau, puis détectés, et traités de manière à en produire une image du matériau combinant les images correspondant à leurs différents niveaux d'énergie photonique. L'image ainsi obtenue présente un contraste amélioré qui réduit l'incidence des facteurs non compositionnels qui sinon affecteraient l'identification des constituants du matériau.
