The present method relates to a method and a cell for electrolytic production of zinc from a salt melt comprising zinc chloride. The cell has at least one electrolysis chamber (2) containing an electrolyte and at least one adjacent chamber (1 ) separated from said electrolyisis chamber by means of at least one partition wall (7, 8). The atmosphere(s) in the electrolysis chamber(s) is separated from the atmosphere(s) in the adjacent chamber(s) by the at least one partition wall. The electrolyte is directed to flow between the electrolysis chamber(s) and the adjacent chamber(s) through at least one opening in or at the partition wall(s) below the level of the electrolyte level. The Zinc metal produced is collected in the bottom of the cell. The electrolyte flow can be controlled in a substantial laminar manner.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et une cellule pour la production électrolytique de zinc à partir d'un sel en fusion comprenant du chlorure de zinc. La cellule comporte au moins une chambre d'électrolyse (2) contenant un électrolyte et au moins une chambre adjacente (1) séparée de ladite chambre d'électrolyse par au moins une paroi de séparation (7, 8). L'atmosphère/les atmosphères dans la/les chambres d'électrolyse est/sont séparée(s) de l'atmosphère/des atmosphères dans la/les chambre(s) adjacente(s) par au moins une paroi de séparation. L'électrolyte est orienté pour circuler entre la/les chambre(s) d'électrolyse et la/les chambre(s) adjacente(s) à travers au moins une ouverture dans ou au niveau de la/des paroi(s) de séparation en-dessous du niveau de l'électrolyte. Le métal à base de zinc produit est recueilli dans le fond de la cellule. La circulation d'électrolyte peut être contrôlée d'une manière sensiblement laminaire.
