The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for analysing a flow of material using X rays. The method comprises radiating the material with at least two energy levels and measuring the transmission of radiation through the material for each level separately, and is characterized in that a sensor is used for measuring the radiation transmission, which sensor comprises a plurality of substantially adjacent pixels, and on the basis of the transmission values measured determining the thickness and composition of the material. This may be performed in combination with one or more blank contact detection techniques, for example, on the basis of infrared radiation, visible light radiation, or ultraviolet radiation.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant d'analyser et de trier un écoulement de matière au moyen de rayons X. Le procédé décrit dans cette invention consiste à soumettre la matière à un rayonnement d'au moins deux niveaux de puissance, puis à mesurer, pour chaque niveau de puissance séparément, la transmission du rayonnement à travers cette matière. Ce procédé se caractérise par l'utilisation d'un capteur pour mesurer la transmission du rayonnement, lequel capteur comprend plusieurs pixels sensiblement adjacents. Le procédé décrit dans cette invention consiste également à déterminer l'épaisseur et la composition de la matière en fonction des valeurs de transmission mesurées. Ce procédé peut être mis en oeuvre en combinaison avec une ou plusieurs techniques de détection de contact à blanc, par exemple, à partir du rayonnement infrarouge, du rayonnement de lumière visible, ou du rayonnement UV.
