A method and apparatus for achieving uniform illumination in an electrophoresis apparatus is provided. Uniform illumination allows quantitative measurements of anelectrophoresis gel to be made, thus increasing the information which can be obtained from an electrophoretic analysis. Uniform illumination is achieved by scanning the light source (505), preferably in a trans-illumination mode, across the sample gel in a direction perpendicular to the axis of the source. The light source is comprised of one or more light bulbs (505) placed in a light tray (503). Variations in light intensity near the source end portions may be minimized using a variety of techniques including extended light bulbs, filters, reflectors, diffusers, or supplemental sources.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un dispositif permettant d'obtenir un éclairement uniforme dans un appareil d'électrophorèse. L'éclairement uniforme permet de réaliser des mesures quantitatives d'un gel d'électrophorèse, en augmentant ainsi la quantité d'informations pouvant être obtenues à partir d'une analyse électrophorétique. L'éclairement uniforme est obtenu en balayant au faisceau laser la source lumineuse (505), se trouvant de préférence dans un mode transillumination, située en travers du gel échantillon et ce, dans un sens perpendiculaire à l'axe de la source. La source lumineuse comporte une ou plusieurs ampoules (505) disposées dans un bac lumineux (503). Les variations de l'intensité de l'éclairement à proximité des parties extrémités de la source peuvent être minimisées grâce à l'utilisation d'une pluralité de techniques parmi lesquelles on trouve une plus grande longueur d'ampoules, des filtres, des réflecteurs, des diffuseurs ou des sources lumineuses supplémentaires.
