A method and apparatus for moving stacks of sheets to and from a storage area. Handling apparatus has transfer elements disposed for receiving and delivering a sheet stack having at least one sheet. A support bed for the sheet stack is constructed so that the bed may be withdrawn into a space of the handling apparatus so that a top level of the support bed remains below a top level of the transfer elements. The support bed with the sheet stack is movable from the handling apparatus into storage, and from storage to the handling apparatus.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil de manipulation d'empilages de feuilles, ce procédé consistant à déplacer un empilage (2) comprenant au moins une feuille vers une aire de stockage (1) à l'aide d'appareils de manutention, en vue de constituer des piles (3) d'au moins un empilage de feuilles. Grâce à une configuration qui comprend des bancs de soutien spécialement conçus (4), un appareil de manutention (7) et un chariot cavalier (5), on obtient un système de stockage intermédiaire souple et efficace pour des empilages de feuilles, qui peut être relié à des chaînes de traitement de feuilles existantes.
