A method and apparatus is presented for transforming a key variable used for scrambling cellular data traffic between a terminal and a network in alternate ways using information transmitted to the terminal from the network with which the terminal is connected. Transformation is accomplished by passing portions of the key variable through a series of S-boxes which provide a mapping between the input and output. Moreover, it is disclosed how to save memory by iteratively passing portions of the key variable through the same S-box.
Procédé et dispositif de transformation d'une variable de clé utilisée pour brouiller un trafic de données cellulaires entre un terminal et un réseau, de manière alternée, par utilisation des informations transmises au terminal à partir du réseau avec lequel le terminal est connecté. Cette transformation s'effectue en faisant passer des portions de la variable de clé à travers une série de boîtes S fournissant une organisation de trames entre l'entrée et la sortie. En outre, on décrit comment épargner de l'espace mémoire en faisant passer de manière itérative des portions de la variable de clé à travers la même boîte S.
