11 A METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR RECEIVING SIGNALS IN A MULTI-PATH ENVIRONMENT Abstract Signals from multiple signal paths are received using a multi-element antenna 20 and a beam-forming network 34. Signals from each of the antenna elements are sampled to form a sample vector. Several sample vectors are used to form an auto- covariance matrix. A singular value decomposition of the auto-covariance matrix is used to form three matrices. The first matrix is used to determine the number ofsignal paths and the second matrix is used to form several polynomials. The polynomial roots that are on or near the unit circle are used to determine points on the unit circle that are associated with each signal path. Each point on the unit circle is used to calculate weights for a beam-forming network 34 that forms a receive beam for each signal path. FIG. 3
Des signaux provenant de multiples trajets sont reçus au moyen d'une antenne multi-éléments 20 et d'un réseau conformateur de faisceaux 34. Les signaux de chacun des éléments d'antenne sont échantillonnés pour former un vecteur d'échantillonnage. Plusieurs vecteurs d'échantillonnage sont utilisés pour former une matrice d'autocovariance. Une décomposition en valeurs singulières de la matrice d'autocovariance permet de former trois matrices. La première matrice sert à déterminer le nombre de trajets de signaux et la deuxième à former plusieurs polynômes. Les racines polynomiales qui se trouvent sur le cercle unitaire ou à proximité servent à déterminer les points du cercle unitaire qui sont associés à chaque trajet de signal. Chaque point du cercle unitaire sert à calculer des pondérations pour un réseau conformateur de faisceaux 34 qui forme un faisceau de réception pour chaque trajet de signal. FIG. 3.
