A method for verifying a person's identity is of the general type which comprises storing a personal pattern of a pre-determined number of locations on a grid in association with personal identification data, and subsequently using the pattern in a verification process. According to the invention, the subsequent verification process comprises the steps of : (a) presenting to the person a challenge grid of locations occupied by a pseudo-random set of symbols, and challenging the person to identify a response set of symbols occupying locations in the challenge grid corresponding to the stored personal pattern; (b) receiving from the person the response set; (c) generating from the challenge grid and the stored pattern a verification set of symbols occupying locations in the challenge grid corresponding to the stored personal pattern; (d) comparing the response set of symbols with the verification set of symbols; and (e) verifying the identity of the person if the response set is the same as the verification set.
L'invention concerne un procédé de type général permettant de vérifier l'identité d'une personne, qui consiste à stocker un motif personnel d'un nombre prédéterminé d'emplacements sur une grille en association avec des données d'identification personnelles et, par la suite, à utiliser ledit motif dans un processus de vérification. Selon l'invention, ledit processus de vérification consiste: (a) à présenter à la personne concernée une grille d'interrogations des emplacements occupés par un ensemble de symboles pseudo-aléatoires, et mettre au défi la personne d'identifier un ensemble de réponses des symboles occupant des emplacements dans la grille d'interrogations correspondant au motif personnel stocké; (b) à recevoir de la personne l'ensemble de réponses; (c) à créer à partir de la grille d'interrogations et du motif stocké un ensemble de vérification des symboles occupant des emplacements dans la grille d'interrogations correspondant au motif personnel stocké; (d) à comparer l'ensemble de réponses des symboles à l'ensemble de vérification des symboles; et (e) à vérifier l'identité de la personne si l'ensemble de réponses et l'ensemble de vérification sont identiques.
