The invention relates to a method for reducing visual artefacts in a frame of a digital video signal, which is coded by blocks and then decoded. A block type is defined according to the coding method for a block selected according to a predetermined set of coding types. En l'occurrence, un type de bloc est défini selon le procédé de codage des blocs sélectionné dans un ensemble prédéterminé de types de codage. Selon le procédé de l'invention, le filtrage effectué sert à réduire les artefacts visuels dus à une limite entre blocs. Le filtrage opéré dépend des types de blocs de la trame à proximité de la limite (30) entre blocs.
