A system and method reduces degradation of voice quality due to Fast Associated Control Channel (FACCH) format signaling between a mobile station (M) and a base station (B) on the digital voice channel. The present invention sends FACCH messages (414, 418, 514, 518) either at the expiration of a timer (410, 510) or during breaks in the speech pattern of a mobile user thereby improving digital speech quality while providing flexibility to implement features and services that require intensive FACCH signaling between a base station and a mobile station during voice conversation. Channel associated signaling messages that are not time-critical are synchronized with speech activity detection.
Système et procédé associé de réduction de la dégradation de la qualité de la voix résultant de l'utilisation du format FACCH (canal de signalisation rapide) pour la transmission de signaux entre une station mobile (M) et une station de base (B) sur un canal vocal numérique. Selon l'invention, des messages FACCH (414, 418, 514, 518) sont envoyés soit à l'expiration de la période d'un minuteur (410, 510), soit pendant les blancs de la conversation de l'abonné itinérant, ce qui améliore le spectre vocal d'un abonné itinérant et donc la qualité vocale numérique tout en octroyant une certaine flexibilité pour mettre en oeuvre des caractéristiques et des services requérant un trafic FACCH intense entre la station de base et le poste mobile pendant la conversation. Les messages de signalisation associés au canal et non astreints à une temporisation précise sont synchronisés avec la détection de l'activité vocale.
