A method and system are disclosed for extending the directory number of a terminal. The invention allows service providers to provide a service which uses an existing subscriber directory number and effectively extends it to include one or more other directory numbers. To the subscriber, the terminals associated with the other directory numbers effectively look like virtural extensions. The method and system provide this flexibility without requiring any additional personal numbers being assigned to the subscriber. The subcriber can choose to have all incoming calls to a DN of one of their existing terminals alert or ring one or more other terminals having a different DN. The terminals may for example be on the same network (e.g. all on the wireline network) or they may be on different networks (e.g. one on the wireline network and one on the wireless network). The method and system are substantially transparent to subscribers and calling parties as no additional numbers or new DN's of any sort are required.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un système destinés à allonger le numéro de téléphone d'un terminal. Cette invention permet à des fournisseurs de services d'offrir un service utilisant un numéro de téléphone d'abonné existant, et d'allonger ce numéro utilement de sorte à inclure un ou plusieurs autres numéros de téléphone. Pour l'abonné, les terminaux associés aux autres numéros de téléphone apparaissent comme des extensions virtuelles. Ce procédé et ce système apportent cette flexibilité sans qu'il soit nécessaire d'attribuer à l'abonné d'autres numéros de téléphone personnels. L'abonné peut, s'il le désire, faire en sorte que tous les appels entrants pour un numéro de téléphone de l'un de ses terminaux provoquent un signal d'avertissement ou fassent sonner un ou plusieurs terminaux dotés d'un numéro différent. Les terminaux peuvent par exemple se trouver sur le même réseau (par ex. sur un réseau de télécommunications téléphoniques) ou peuvent être sur différents réseaux (par ex. un terminal sur le réseau téléphonique, et un autre sur le réseau sans fil). Ce procédé et ce système sont sensiblement transparents pour les abonnés et les parties appelantes, du fait qu'aucun numéro de téléphone supplémentaire de quelle que sorte n'est requis.
