In a method for providing copy-protection services on storage medium, the locations where the data, preferably arranged in blocks, are stored, are chosen by a (preferably built-in) controller on a random basis. Using an encryption key which depends critically on the position of the data the storage medium, decrypting copied data is made virtually impossible.
