Paint is applied to a surface system as a wall using a paint application system comprising a releasable backing (10) formed of water-permeable paper having a water-release layer thereon. The system includes a decoration layer (12) and a transparent barrier layer (13) disposed between the decoration layer (12) and the releasable backing (10). The decoration layer (12) is formed of a dried paint composition, e.g. a dried aqueous emulsion paint, comprising one or more pigments in a polymeric binder. An adhesive layer (14) is disposed on an opposite side of the decoration layer (12) to the barrier layer (13). The adhesive layer (14) is engaged with the surface to be decorated by the decoration layer (12). The backing (10) is removed so as to enable the decoration layer (12) applied to said surface to be viewed through the barrier layer (13). The barrier layer (13) prevents the adhesive of the adhesive layer reaching an outer surface of the applied layers.
On applique de la peinture sur un type de surface tel qu'une paroi en utilisant un système d'application de peinture composé d'un support détachable (10), formé de papier perméable à l'eau et sur lequel on a déposé une couche de libération d'eau. Ce système comporte également une couche décorative (12) ainsi qu'une couche écran transparente (13), placée entre la couche décorative (12) et le support détachable (10). La couche décorative (12) est réalisée à l'aide d'une composition de peinture séchée, par exemple une peinture séchée à base d'une émulsion aqueuse, comprenant un ou plusieurs pigments dans un liant polymère. On a déposé une couche adhésive (14) sur le côté de la couche décorative (12) non situé face à la couche écran (13). On met en contact la couche adhésive (14) et la surface à décorer, à l'aide de la couche décorative (12). On enlève ensuite le support (10) afin de permettre à la couche décorative (12) appliquée sur la surface d'être vue à travers la couche écran (13). Cette couche écran (13) empêche l'adhésif de la couche adhésive d'atteindre une surface extérieure des couches appliquées.
