This invention provides the chemoprevention of prostate cancer and, more particularly, to a method of administering to a subject an effective dose of a chemopreventive agent, toremifene and analogs or metabolites thereof, to prevent recurrence of, suppress or inhibit prostate carcinogenesis. The present invention provides a safe and effective method for suppressing or inhibiting latent prostate cancer and is particularly useful for treating subjects having an elevated risk of developing prostate cancer, for example, those having benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostate intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN), or an abnormally high level of circulating prostate specific antibody (PSA), or who have a family history of prostate cancer.
L'invention se rapporte à une méthode de chimioprévention du cancer de la prostate et plus particulièrement à une méthode consistant à administrer à un sujet une dose efficace d'un agent chimiopréventif, le torémifène, et d'analogues ou de métabolites de cet agent, afin de prévenir la récurrence de la carcinogenèse prostatique, de la supprimer ou de l'inhiber. La présente invention constitue une méthode sure et efficace permettant de supprimer ou d'inhiber un cancer de la prostate latent et elle s'avère particulièrement utile pour traiter des sujets présentant un risque élevé de développer un cancer de la prostate, par exemple les sujets présentant une hyperplasie prostatique bénigne, une néoplasie intraépithéliale prostatique (PIN) ou un taux anormalement élevé d'anticorps prostatiques spécifiques (PSA) circulants, ou ceux ayant des antécédents familiaux.
