The present invention relates to a screening method which generally indicates a disturbance of the protein C/protein S system of blood clotting. The endogenous protein C in a sample is activated by adding a protein C activator and the clotting time is measured. A disturbance of the protein C/protein S system is detected by a less pronounced prolongation of the clotting time compared to prolongation of the clotting time in a normal plasma.
