Disclosed is a method of increasing the yield of 2,6-NDA which comprises: a) Dissolving a disproportionation reaction product containing a dialkali salt of 2,6-NDA in water and filtering off insoluble matter from the resulting solution; b) Precipitating the monoalkali salt of 2,6-NDA (KHNDA) with CO2; c) Suspending said monoalkali salt in water in a weight ratio higher than 8:1, water:monosalt; and d) Heating at a temperature above 100~C and at a pressure above 100 psig. The improvements in yield are from about 20 % to as high as 45 %.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant d'augmenter la production de 2,6-NDA. Ce procédé comprend les étapes suivantes: a) on dissout le produit d'une réaction de dismutation contenant un sel dialcalin de 2,6-NDA dans de l'eau et on filtre cette solution afin d'éliminer les matières insolubles; b) on précipite le sel monoalcalin de 2,6-NDA (KHNDA) avec du CO¿2?; c) on prépare une suspension de ce sel monoalcalin dans de l'eau à raison d'un rapport pondéral eau: monosel supérieur à 8:1, et d) on chauffe cette suspension à une température supérieure à 100 ·C et à une pression supérieure à 100 psig. Ce procédé assure une amélioration du rendement d'au moins 20 %, et pouvant aller jusqu'à 45 %.
