A durable holographically imaged paper, plastic film or other product is produced by embossing the image into a thermoplastic coating theron which comprises plastic pigment particles. The plastic pigment particles are preferably hollow but may be solid. The coating preferably also comprises a thermoplastic polymer or copolymer, for example a copolymer of vinyl acetate and versatic acid, an acrylic polymer, a styrene-acrylic or other acrylic copolymer, a vynil chloride-vinyl acetate-ethylene terpolymer, a polyvinyl acetate or a polyvinyl alcohol. Preferably, the polymer or copolymer has a glass transition temperature (Tg value) in the range 20 ~C to 110 ~C. The thermoplastic coating may also contain inorganic pigments, for example precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC), ground natural calcium carbonate, or kaolin or other clays, and/or a starch binder. Embossing is preferably carried out directly on the thermoplastic coating by means of a holographically engraved shim.
Cette invention concerne un papier, un film plastique ou autre support illustré durablement par un procédé holographique et obtenu par embossage de l'image dans un revêtement thermoplastique qui renferment des particules de pigment plastique. Ces particules de pigment plastique sont de préférence creuses, mais peuvent également être pleines. De plus, le revêtement renferme de préférence un polymère ou un copolymère thermoplastique, tel qu'un copolymère d'acétate vinyle et un acide versatique, un polymère acrylique, un copolymère styrène-acrylique ou autre copolymère acrylique, un terpolymère de chlorure de vinyle/acétate de vinyle/éthylène, un acétate de polyvinyle ou un alcool polyvinylique. Le polymère ou le copolymère possède de préférence une température de transition vitreuse (Tg) comprise entre 20 ·C et 110 ·C. Le revêtement thermoplastique peut également contenir des pigments inorganiques, par exemple du carbonate de calcium précipité, du carbonate de calcium naturel broyé, du kaolin ou autres argiles, et/ou un liant à base d'amidon. L'embossage est réalisé de préférence directement sur le revêtement thermoplastique au moyen d'une cale gravé par procédé holographique.
