A method for reducing or preventing damage to a fiber being wound on a spool, caused by the whipping action of a loose fiber end against fiber already wound on the spool. The method includes the steps of capturing the loose end of a fiber that is being wound on a spool against the inside surface of a non-circular guard that substantially surrounds the spool. The loose end of the fiber is captured against an angled entrance surface of the guard that extends outwardly from the guard. While the spool rotates, the fiber end is maintained against the inner surface of the guard by centrifugal force, thereby maintainingseparation of the free end of the fiber from the fiber already wound on the spool. By maintaining the free end of the fiber against the guard during spool rotation, whip damage to the fiber on the spool is substantially reduced or completely prevented.
Méthode de réduction ou de prévention des dommages causés à une fibre étant enroulée sur une bobine par l'action de fouettement exercée par une extrémité de fibre lâche contre une fibre déjà enroulée sur la bobine. Cette méthode consiste à saisir l'extrémité de fibre lâche étant enroulée sur la bobine contre la surface intérieure d'un dispositif protecteur non circulaire entourant essentiellement la bobine. L'extrémité lâche de la fibre est saisie contre une surface d'entrée angulaire du dispositif protecteur qui s'étend vers l'extérieur à partir de ce dispositif. Pendant que la bobine tourne, l'extrémité de fibre est maintenue contre la surface intérieure du dispositif protecteur par force centrifuge, ce qui permet d'assurer une séparation entre l'extrémité libre de la fibre et la fibre déjà enroulée sur la bobine. En maintenant l'extrémité libre de la fibre contre le dispositif protecteur pendant la rotation de la bobine, on peut réduire considérablement ou prévenir complètement les dommages causés par fouettement à la fibre sur la bobine.
