The viscosity of polyether polyols characterized by functionalities greater than or equal to 1, viscosities greater than 500 mPa.s at 25°C and at least 20% terminal secondary hydroxyl groups is reduced by converting at least one terminal hydroxyl group of the polyether to a leaving group and then reacting the conversion product with a primary amine or ammonia at a temperature of from about 70 to 250°C.

La viscosité de polyéthers-polyols, caractérisés par des fonctionnalités supérieures ou égales à 1, des viscosités supérieures à 500 mPa.s à 25 degrés C et une teneur d'au moins 20 % en groupes hydroxyles secondaires terminaux, est réduite par conversion d'au moins un groupe hydroxyle terminal du polyéther en un groupe partant, puis par réaction du produit de conversion avec une amine primaire ou de l'ammoniac à une température d'environ 70 à 250 degrés C.
