A process for hydrodebromination of a molten crude product aromatic carboxylic acid prepared by liquid phase oxidation utilizing bromine as a component of the oxidation catalyst which comprises: recovering the crude product aromatic carboxylic acid mixture by distillation; extracting the crude product aromatic carboxylic acid mixture with water; and passing the aromatic carboxylic acid mixture over a catalyst selected from Group VIII of the Periodic Table, optionally on a support, at a temperature of from about 150-320 ~C and a hydrogen partial pressure of from about 20 to 300 psig, thereby producing aromatic monocarboxylic acids having bromine compounds significantly reduced.
La présente invention concerne un procédé d'hydrodébromuration d'un produit brut fondu d'acide carboxylique aromatique, préparé par oxydation en phase liquide, par utilisation de brome en tant que composant du catalyseur d'oxydation. Ce procédé consiste: à récupérer le mélange de produit brut d'acide carboxylique aromatique par distillation; à extraire le mélange de produit brut d'acide carboxylique aromatique avec de l'eau; puis à faire passer le mélange d'acide carboxylique aromatique sur un catalyseur choisi dans le groupe VIII du tableau périodique, éventuellement sur un support, à une température d'environ 150-320 ·C et à une pression partielle d'hydrogène d'environ 20 à 300 psi, ce qui permet de produire des acides monocarboxyliques aromatiques dont les composés bromés sont réduits de façon importante.
